The Turf Levy
The National Turf Levy has now been passed into legislation by the Federal Government after a successful vote by turf producers across Australia.
This Levy will be charged at the farm gate in the form of 1.5c/m2 for every m2 sold. This will be 80 % matched by the Government dollar for dollar for industry Research and Development. The Government will not match the 20% used for marketing.
The whole of the turf industry is set to benefit from this historical decision and it will help the turf industry gain its rightful place both in the marketplace and amongst other primary industries fighting for Government dollars and recognition.
The IAC Committee is responsible for dealing with the funds and appointing projects.
The turf levy monies will be collected by the Levy Revenue Service and the levy will come into effect on October 1 2006. Return forms need to be lodged at the end of each quarter.
